Shaughnessy Mountain Chalet

23 June 2021

As you may have seen, a home designed by Formwerks Architectural recently sold for over $19 million. Nestled in one of Vancouver’s most sought after areas, this home is the picture of elegance. Standing at 8,600 square feet, this luxury home was crafted with every last detail in mind. From concept to construction, it was custom-built from the ground up to enhance the architecturally rich Shaughnessy neighbourhood as an enduring cornerstone. Inspired by a mountain chalet village along the Spanish-French border, this double fronting residence was featured on DAILY HIVE.

The lavish home was designed by Jim Bussey, Principle of Formwerks and the lush exterior landscaping was crafted by Claudia Rust, Senior Landscape Designer of Formwerks. Their combined vision magnificently connects the architectural expression of the home to its surrounding outdoor space. The mixture of natural material and robust forms settle the home into the landscape while commanding attention from the tree lined streets.

Paramount to the design is the strong definition between the street space and private realm as this manor lies on a coveted corner lot with streets passing on two sides. Double-sided, free-standing natural stone walls following a distinct rhythm with evergreen hedging and trees along the street property lines create a peaceful and serene garden atmosphere for the new homeowners to enjoy.

A timeless garden highlights the residence, enhancing its privacy while remaining inviting for entertaining. An offset pedestrian entrance and pathway leads to a grand curved formal entry area, a generous rectangular lawn area sits in the centre and contrasts nicely with the playful layered planting encompassing it, ultimately leading to a zero-edge pool with a seamless deck creating a flow from interior to outdoor hosting – separate pool house included.

Each of these individual garden rooms respond to the architectural program of this spectacular home. The architectural designs and garden landscapes at Formwerks create spaces that evolve from within, properties in their portfolio are elevated through understanding the potential of their natural layout first.

We hope you’ll love it as much as we do.

Ta,

Jim Bussey
